January 2008
Hi
everyone!
We
are finishing up our new record RIGHT NOW. I'm sitting on a couch
overlooking the Ashokan Reservoir at the gorgeous Allaire
Studios in Shokan, New York. We are so excited about this
new music and can't wait to share it all with you!
For a detailed day by day account of our recording process check
out Corey's blog: www.playthebassdrivethebus.blogspot.com
Our new lineup, featuring Tristan Clarridge and Brittany Haas,
is premiering THIS WEEKEND in New York City! Our 2008 tour dates
are still being locked down, but keep on the lookout for our brand
new website, as well as dates to be posted on the myspace page
as they appear.
As always the complete schedule can be found here.
Other shows featuring members of Crooked Still:
Aoife plays a solo show THIS thursday, January 17th in Cambridge
at the Lizard Lounge!
Laura Cortese and Neil Cleary are also playing sets. Check out
Aoife's myspace
page for new songs and more information.
Corey is heading to Celtic
Connections with his wife, fiddler and singer Lissa
Schneckenburger. They'll play two shows, January 23 and 24,
in Glasgow before heading to the Caribbean for their honeymoon!
Greg just finished an all original banjo rap album with his new
group The Deadly Gentlemen. In addition to Greg on vocals and
banjo, the band consists of Josh Pinkham on mandolin, Mike Barnett
on fiddle, and Sam Grisman on double-bass. Look for an internet
pre-release on Valentine's Day!
Tristan and Brittany will both be playing some shows around New
England next weekend with fiddler extraordinaire, Darol
Anger. This is a great opportunity for Boston fans to scope
out our amazing new bandmates!
More news coming soon. We hope to post new music in the next couple
of days. Check out the ol' myspace
page often!
We're back to putting the finishing touches on the album...

Hello
friends-
Here is some breaking news:
After 6 years of creating one of the most unique and compelling
forms of alternative bluegrass and string band music today, we
are announcing a change in our line-up. Cellist Rushad Eggleston
will perform his last show with the band on November 18th.
We are thrilled to welcome two new members: Tristan Clarridge
on cello and Brittany Haas on fiddle. They have both played in
Darol Anger's Republic of Strings, along with numerous other projects.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, Tristan Clarridge is a 4 time
Grand
National Fiddle Champion, and the only person besides Mark O'Connor
to hold that title for three years consecutively. As a cellist,
he also tours with Darol Anger's Republic of Strings, his
sister Tashina, and has toured with Cape Breton fiddle phenomenon
Natalie MacMaster. He is a regular instructor at Mark O'Connor's
Strings Conference in San Diego, and at Alasdair Fraser's Valley
of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School.
Fiddler Brittany Haas has been making waves all over the string
world since 2001. A California Bay Area native and student of
the great Appalachian fiddler Bruce Molsky, she began to work
with Darol Anger and was soon a charter member of his band, Republic
Of Strings. She has performed all over the world with many musicians
and groups including Tony Trischka's Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular
(with which she has appeared twice on national TV with banjoist/comedian
Steve Martin), The Websters and Scott Nygaard, Danny Barnes, Alasdair
Fraser and Natalie Haas, Bruce Molsky, Yonder Mountain String
Band, the Waybacks, and Tristan & Tashina Clarridge. She is
a regular instructor at Mark O'Connor's Fiddle Conferences and
is currently studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton
University, where she also plays drums in the marching band. Die
hard Crooked Still fans will also know Brittany's playing from
Hop High, as she guests on several tracks!
We are so excited about the addition of Tristan and Brittany and
will begin recording a new album in January 2008. Keep an eye
out here and at our myspace
page for details and updates!
In
the meantime, don't miss these final shows
with Rushad.
That's
all for now folks. We hope to see you all very soon!
Love, Crooked Still

Hello
there friends!
It's been a busy spring for us, literally traveling around the
world to play at some truly amazing events. Read the full road
report to follow. Right now, we're heading to Colorado to play
shows in Steamboat Springs, Salida, and finish off at the prestigious
Telluride Bluegrass Festival! Spread the word and we hope to see
you this week!
Our
full tour schedule can be found here.
Now for the road report:
At the end of April, we made our first appearance at Merlefest!
This is one of the great American music festivals- it's held in
Wilkesboro, North Carolina. We played a ton over the weekend,
beginning with a set at a local high school! There were loads
of crazy jams all weekend long, the most epic of which being the
"New Generation Super Jam," featuring us, The Duhks,
The Stringdusters, and Uncle Earl. We were scrambling around like
crazy backstage coming up with cool versions of never-been-played-together-before
songs! This entire set is available for download through our friends
at Festival Link. My personal favorite is the version of Rushad's
song, Clover Show. Check it out... www.festivalink.net
In May, we traveled for 2 days, halfway across the world, to get
to the Shetland Folk Festival. The Shetland Islands are in the
North Sea, between Scotland and Norway. The people and the music
from these islands are some of the best on earth! We had such
a ball hanging out with other bands form around the world, such
as Terrafolk from Slovenia, The McDades from Canada, Mary Black
and Sharon Shannon from Ireland, Lazy Boy Chair from Orkney, and
many more. Highlights included a 2am set at the final fling featuring
a rap battle between Rushad and Greg and some crazy club style
dancing. Special thanks to the Davie Henderson and the entire
festival committee for having us! We can't wait to come back!

After Shetland, we headed to Denmark for 3 incredible shows. It
was great to be performing in Denmark again- we had such a fun
tour there in September, and it seemed like everyone who saw us
then has memorized our entire CD! We're heading back that way
in August for the Tonder Festival.... Everyone is invited!
Our last stop was Baltimore, West Cork, Ireland. We performed
at a perfect festival called the Baltimore Fiddle Fair, put on
by our great pal Declan McCarthy. There are some great live recordings
of our show, which featured many special guests such as Mike McGoldrick,
John Doyle, John McCusker, and MORE! These will probably end up
on our myspace page soon... Again, we heard beautiful music all
weekend in the prettiest little harbour town in Ireland! Thanks
to Declan and staff for having us!

video of the festival finale...
We then had a few weeks away from eachother before meeting up
again in Yosemite for one of our all time favorite festivals,
the Strawberry Music Festival. We brought our friend Erick Jaskowiak
with us to do sound, which always makes a huge difference! We
played 2 awesome sets, and had the great pleasure of playing with
our great friend and fiddle player Casey Driessen. Our Sunday
morning set was absolutely insane- Rushad crowd surfed, there
were little girls dancing on stage with Kristin Andreassen, and
the crowd was going wild. Check out this hysterical
video of Aoife dancing like a lunatic and almost falling over.
That's all the news for now. Keep checking out the myspace page
and the website for photo, music, and gig updates.
Can't wait to see you all down the road!
