April 2006
Hello
out there-
Happy Spring! There has been a ton going on in the little world
of Crooked Still over the past few months. While we haven't been
out on the road, we have still been in constant email and iChat
contact, dealing with all the crazy aspects of making a new CD,
etc.
In the middle of all this craziness, Greg gets a call to go try
out for Bruce Springsteen's band. So he goes to New Jersey, has
a good time, and says "wow, that audition was the best day
of my life." Then he actually gets hired. Yup, you heard
me. The name "Greg Liszt" can now be found on the official
website of the Boss. So this means that for about six or eight
shows between April 24 and June 11, we will be joined by some
other stellar banjo players. (Greg returns to us on July 5). On
April 24 and 25, Noam Pikelny (Compass
Records artist, Leftover
Salmon, John Cowan Band)
will help us out. Noam is a close pal of the band's, not to mention
one of the foremost banjo players in the entire country. We can't
wait to share the stage with him! Check out www.noampikelny.com
In other news, Darol Anger's
Republic of Strings has just released a brand new album. Available
on Compass Records, it's called "Generation Nation."
For those of you who have not yet heard this amazing band, it
features Rushad on cello, as well as Brittany Haas (she played
on Hop High!) on fiddle, Scott Nygaard on guitar, and a ton of
other crazy guests. Aoife makes an appearance on the new CD, singing
a Rushad Eggleston classic, "In the Basement." The band
is on tour all spring, (unfortunately, without Rushad and Aoife),
but you should not miss them if they come to your town!

We are ridiculously excited to hook up with Jawbone this weekend.
Jawbone is the name of a trio including
Tony Trischka, Bruce Molsky,
and Paula Bradley. These three musicians are some of our all time
favorites, and there should be a lot of great jamming onstage.
We hope to see as many people as possible at these shows- it will
be our first time in Chicago! And these will be Greg's last few
shows with Crooked Still before heading out on tour with Bruce
Springsteen until June 26. Spread the word...

Hey
everyone! We just updated the blog with some details of the recent
trip to Ireland and the UK. Check
it out!
We
filmed a show for BBC television when we were over in Glasgow!
It will air sometime in February in the UK and Ireland, and it
features us playing three songs in a crowded futuristic rock club
and giving a little interview. We'll transmit more details about
this show as soon as we get them, so be sure to check back here.

Greetings
from Scotland! After a great week in Ireland, we're here in Glasgow
for our first UK appearance at Celtic
Connections. It's been amazing to be here, getting to perform
along side such great artisits as Alison
Brown and the Old
Blind Dogs.
In
February, we will be heading out to California to record our new
album. We are so excited to announce that we will be working with
Lee Townsend as our producer.
He has produced some of our favorite albums, such as those by
Bill Frisell, among
others. Check him out on the web at www.songtone.com.
Lots of new songs are in the works and we cannot WAIT to get into
the studio. Keep an eye out here for more news of our progress!

ATTENTION:
NPR's Mountain Stage this week features a live performance by
Crooked Still! Click
here for a list of NPR stations broadcasting the show. Many
of these stations stream the show on the internet, too. This week's
show also features living legend Dr.
Ralph Stanley, as well as several other fine musicians. Crooked
Still plays first, so if you tune in don't be late. But even if
you miss Crooked Still, this show is still worth hearing just
for Dr. Ralph's
amazing singing. It is seriously unreal. And if you miss the show
altogether, you will be able to hear it next week at www.mountainstage.org.
